I first tried intercourse seven months ago. My vagina contracts in the middle of the act, causing discomfort to my partner. Once the tricky part is over, sex is thoroughly enjoyable. We thought time and practice would help, but it’s frustrating when my partner has to stop and start again after a few minutes.

  1. The surrounding muscles of the vagina can tighten due to tension or fright. It is termed vaginismus. It is a common occurrence at the beginning of intercourse. If it’s happening in the middle of the act, you may be tightening the muscles involuntarily. When you near orgasm, try taking deep breaths. It will help you relax.
